Essential Oils for Skincare

Essential Oils: The Life Force of Plants

Since the beginning of human history man has been healing with herbs and scents. Aromatherapy dates back 5000 or more years. It was practiced by the Egyptian Pharaohs (Hatshepsut, Cleopatra), High Priests and Physicians (Imhotep), Queens (Esther of Persia, Elizabeth 1, Zenobia of Syria), Royalty (Empress Theodora), Romans, Greeks (Hippocrates), during the life of Jesus and into the 21st century.

Essential oils are the life force or essence of plants. This essence is found in leaves (such as eucalyptus), petals (rose), bark (sandalwood), resins (myrrh), roots (calamu
), rind (citrus fruits) and seeds (caraway).

The modern era of aromatherapy dawned in 1930 when the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse coined the term aromatherapy for the therapeutic use of essential oils because of his fascination with the benefits of lavender oil in healing his burned hand without leaving any scars. He then began investigating the effect of other essential oils for healing and for their psychotherapeutic benefits.

During World War II, the French army surgeon Dr. Jean Valnet used essential oils as antiseptics. Later, Madame Marguerite Maury elevated aromatherapy as a holistic therapy. She started prescribing essential oils as remedy for her patients. She is also credited with the modern use of essential oils in massage and aroma cosmetology, the practice of aromatherapy in beauty therapy. Her book “The Secret of Life and Youth” is influential to the practice of aromatherapy and use of essential oils today.

Many more throughout history and time, have enjoyed a refined life with aromatics for healing, inspiration, spiritual growth, rituals and beautifying face and body. Following in this tradition, Isis Essentials natural organic skincare products are prepared with the utmost care with you in mind.
